In this lab, we combined Calcium Chloride and Baking Soda (sodium bicarbonate). When mixed with water, these two compounds produced a gas and a solid precipitate. Matt and I examined the reactants and products to create a chemcial equation for the reaction. Then, we filtered the mixture and evaporated the water to discover the Sodium Chloride (table salt) in the mixture.

CaCl2 + 2NaHCO3 ---> 2NaCl + CaCO3 + H2CO3
H2CO3 ---> H2O + CO2
Salt after evaporating water.
Salt created from the chemical reaction. Regular table salt.
